Overview
On June 27, 2024, the Opioid Remediation Collaborative (ORC) facilitated two Community Listening Sessions in Catron County to engage directly with residents about local opioid-related challenges and opportunities. The first session was held at the County Manager’s Office in Reserve, followed by a second at Quemado Independent Schools in Datil.
These sessions provided an open forum for community members to share their experiences, voice concerns, and suggest meaningful solutions. Participants emphasized the urgent need for better access to treatment options, support for individuals post-incarceration, and resources tailored to rural realities.
Key feedback included requests for local recovery services, more provider education on opioid use in older adults, and expanded caregiver training to prevent medication misuse. Attendees also highlighted structural barriers such as long travel distances, limited broadband access for telehealth, and a lack of transportation—all of which make accessing care more difficult in Catron County.
The ORC remains committed to turning this feedback into actionable steps that reflect the community’s voice and drive real impact in prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts.
