Overview
On October 24, 2024, Hidalgo County was selected to participate in the “Planning Initiative to Build Bridges to Increase Access to Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Options in the Nation’s Jails.” This nine-month initiative aims to support jails in expanding access to opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment for incarcerated individuals, both during their time in custody and upon reentry into the community.orcnm.com+1orcnm.com+1
The grant facilitates the development of strategies to integrate OUD treatment within correctional facilities and establish partnerships with community-based providers. These efforts are crucial in addressing the challenges faced by rural communities in providing comprehensive care for justice-involved populations.
The success of this initiative is attributed to the collaborative efforts of the Opioid Remediation Collaborative staff, the grant writing team in Valencia County, and Hidalgo County leadership.
