Activity Highlight

The Opioid Remediation Collaborative (ORC) updated Guadalupe County Commissioners on how it’s using $226,653 in opioid settlement funds to support prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts. ORC emphasized collaboration and transparency as key to addressing addiction in rural areas and ensuring lasting community impact.

Overview

On January 25, 2024, Ms. Hartley, a consultant for the Opioid Remediation Collaborative (ORC), briefed the Guadalupe County Commissioners on the collaborative’s ongoing initiatives to enhance opioid prevention and treatment across seven rural New Mexico counties: Catron, Cibola, Guadalupe, Hidalgo, Sierra, Socorro, and Valencia.

The ORC is committed to regularly informing community stakeholders about its strategies for implementing best-practice interventions aimed at bolstering opioid prevention and treatment within these rural communities. This collaborative serves as a model for resource pooling to combat opioid addiction in New Mexico and to establish a sustainable support system for rural areas where accessing help is often challenging.

In 2024, Guadalupe County was allocated approximately $226,653.24 from the state’s opioid settlement funds, which are part of New Mexico’s broader $195 million opioid remediation agreement. These funds are designated for evidence-based prevention, treatment, and recovery initiatives.

The ORC’s efforts include community engagement, development of youth prevention materials, and collaboration with local stakeholders to address the opioid crisis effectively. By uniting resources and expertise, the collaborative aims to create a resilient support network tailored to the unique needs of New Mexico’s rural populations.
