Overview
On March 1, 2025, the Opioid Remediation Collaborative (ORC) participated in the Annual Volunteer Summit held in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The event featured presentations by ORC Addiction Medicine physicians, focusing on the complexities of opioid use disorder (OUD) and strategies for effective intervention.
Dr. Patricia Pade delivered an insightful presentation titled “History, Epidemiology, and Neurobiology of Opioid Use Disorder,” highlighting historical opioid challenges and their connections to the current crisis. She also shared valuable epidemiological data on opioid abuse and overdose trends both nationwide and in New Mexico.
Dr. Adair led a dynamic session titled “Addiction 101 for Volunteers and First Responders,” where he explored scenarios involving medical emergencies, acute intoxication, and substance withdrawal. Together with the first responder group, he worked through the best approaches for managing these critical situations.
The ORC extends its gratitude to the summit organizers and attendees for their engagement and commitment to addressing the opioid crisis through education and community involvement.
