Overview

The Opioid Remediation Collaborative (ORC) is continuing its commitment to safer homes and healthier communities by expanding access to Deterra Drug Disposal Pouches across its seven rural counties. Last year, ORC mailed out over 45,000 pouches statewide, giving families a simple and effective way to safely dispose of unused medications.

Building on this success, ORC is now working with county leaders to ensure residents know exactly where to find these pouches — without having to ask. The initiative prioritizes placing Deterra pouches in visible, community-centered spaces such as county offices, police and fire stations, senior centers, family gathering spots, and other resource hubs.

Catron County has taken a leadership role in this effort, with Resource Leader Alisa Estrada and her team strategically placing pouches throughout the county. By making safe disposal options easy to access and stigma-free, Catron County is setting a strong example for other communities to follow.

Together, these efforts ensure that every resident has the opportunity to protect their families and communities by reducing the risk of medication misuse.
