Overview
On April 21, 2026, the Opioid Remediation Collaborative of New Mexico (ORCNM) presented project updates to the Sierra County Commissioners, highlighting new trainings, community partnerships, and expanding support systems for residents impacted by substance use and behavioral health challenges.
One major update included participation in a national Emergency Management Training hosted by the Police Assisted Addiction & Recovery Initiative (PAARI) on March 25, 2026. Sierra and Valencia County emergency management staff joined the training, which focused on developing effective diversion and deflection strategies for law enforcement and first responders. The training was also supported by the Opioid Response Network and provided valuable guidance and resources to participating agencies.
ORCNM also announced several new community partnerships formed on February 27, 2026, with:
- Sierra Vista Hospital
- Matthew 25 Food Pantry
- St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
These organizations agreed to collaborate on distributing ORCNM resources through existing food delivery and outreach programs, helping expand access to prevention and support services for local families.
Additional updates included ORCNM’s support for Olive Tree, where funding for a Clinical Supervisor position will help expand programming for individuals experiencing substance use and behavioral health issues.
Finally, ORCNM shared plans for an upcoming NARCAN distribution initiative, including the installation of a NARCAN box expected to launch by the fall, improving community access to overdose-reversal medication throughout Sierra County.
ORCNM extends sincere thanks to the Sierra County Commissioners and community members for their continued partnership and commitment to strengthening coordinated, community-driven solutions across the region.
