Overview
On September 10, 2026, the Opioid Remediation Collaborative of New Mexico (ORCNM) presented project updates to the Grant County Board of County Commissioners. Led by Executive Director Shauna Hartley, the presentation highlighted significant progress on regional initiatives aimed at reducing opioid-related harm, expanding access to community resources, and strengthening prevention and recovery efforts throughout Grant County.
A major highlight was the success of ORCNM’s DETERRA Safe Medication Disposal Project, which distributed drug disposal pouches to 13,332 households across Grant County. This initiative provides residents with a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused and expired medications, helping reduce the risk of prescription drug misuse, accidental poisoning, and improper medication disposal.
During the presentation, Hartley also shared updates on Region 6 Senate Bill 3 (SB3) Early Funding initiatives, highlighting ongoing projects and collaborative efforts to address substance use challenges across the region. These investments support coordinated approaches to prevention, treatment, and recovery while strengthening services for rural communities.
Another important update included the completion of a grant funded through the Rural Transformation Dollars initiative, which supported the development of Drop-In and Resource Centers. These community-based facilities are designed to expand access to essential services, connect residents with available resources, and provide additional support for individuals and families experiencing behavioral health and substance use challenges.
ORCNM extends its sincere appreciation to the Grant County Commissioners for their continued partnership and commitment to improving community health. Through strategic investments, regional collaboration, and evidence-based prevention efforts, ORCNM remains dedicated to building healthier, safer, and more resilient communities throughout Grant County and rural New Mexico.
