Overview

On September 17, 2026, the Opioid Remediation Collaborative of New Mexico (ORCNM) participated in and helped support the Healing Our Community Health Fair at the Sierra County Fairgrounds. The event brought together residents, healthcare providers, first responders, and community organizations to promote health, wellness, substance use prevention, and recovery throughout Sierra County.

The fair featured a variety of community health resources and family-friendly activities, including free vaccinations, educational presentations, live music, arts and crafts, food trucks, and interactive demonstrations. Attendees also had opportunities to connect with local first responders and participate in recovery-focused activities designed to encourage awareness and community support.

As part of its commitment to medication safety and overdose prevention, ORCNM provided Deterra Drug Disposal Pouches to the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office for distribution during the event’s drug take-back initiative. These pouches offer residents a convenient way to safely deactivate and dispose of unused medications, helping reduce the risk of misuse and accidental exposure.

The event concluded with performances and demonstrations by local high school students, followed by a community dance that brought residents together in celebration of health, connection, and recovery.

ORCNM extends its appreciation to the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office, participating organizations, and community members for their continued dedication to building healthier, safer, and more resilient communities across rural New Mexico.
