Overview

On September 24, 2026, the Opioid Remediation Collaborative of New Mexico (ORCNM) presented project updates to the Cibola County Board of County Commissioners. Led by Executive Director Shauna Hartley, the presentation highlighted progress on community-based initiatives designed to reduce opioid-related harm, expand prevention education, and strengthen access to lifesaving resources throughout Cibola County.

A major highlight of the presentation was the success of ORCNM’s community NARCAN distribution boxes, which have dispensed nearly 70 doses of NARCAN since the program’s inception. These publicly accessible resources provide community members with access to naloxone, a lifesaving medication used to reverse opioid overdoses. By expanding access to overdose-reversal medication, ORCNM continues to strengthen community preparedness and support harm reduction efforts throughout the county.

Hartley also highlighted an exciting new partnership with the Cibola School District through ORCNM’s Prevention Outreach: Sports Access Initiative. This program provides free admission for youth and their family members to school sporting events, encouraging positive community engagement while creating opportunities to share opioid prevention education materials. By connecting families through athletics and community activities, the initiative promotes healthy decision-making, substance-free lifestyles, and greater awareness of available prevention resources.

In addition, Hartley provided updates on accomplishments achieved through ORCNM’s FY 2025–2026 Strategic Plan, highlighting continued investments in prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction. These efforts reflect ORCNM’s commitment to developing sustainable, community-driven solutions that address substance use challenges and improve access to essential services across rural New Mexico.

ORCNM extends its sincere appreciation to the Cibola County Commissioners for their continued leadership, collaboration, and support. Through strategic partnerships, expanded access to lifesaving resources, and youth-centered prevention initiatives, ORCNM remains dedicated to building healthier, safer, and more resilient communities throughout Cibola County.
