Overview
On October 8, 2026, the Opioid Remediation Collaborative of New Mexico (ORCNM) delivered its first official project update to the Village of Los Lunas Council. Led by Executive Director Shauna Hartley, LCSW, the presentation highlighted progress on community-based opioid remediation initiatives, strategic priorities, and collaborative efforts to strengthen prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction services throughout the Village.
A major focus of the presentation was the outcomes and key recommendations from the Village of Los Lunas stakeholder meeting, facilitated by ORCNM in the spring of 2026. This collaborative effort brought local stakeholders together to identify community needs, discuss substance use challenges, and explore opportunities for coordinated prevention and recovery initiatives. The recommendations provide a foundation for future projects designed to address local priorities and improve access to essential community resources.
Hartley also shared updates on ORCNM’s FY 2025–2026 Strategic Plan, outlining ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening opioid prevention, expanding treatment and recovery support, and improving access to lifesaving resources. These efforts reflect ORCNM’s commitment to developing sustainable, evidence-based solutions that respond to the unique needs of participating New Mexico communities.
Another important highlight was the significant increase in NARCAN distribution efforts throughout the Village of Los Lunas in 2026. Expanding access to naloxone, a lifesaving medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, remains a critical component of ORCNM’s harm reduction strategy. Through increased distribution and community awareness, these initiatives help strengthen overdose preparedness and provide residents with important resources to respond to opioid-related emergencies.
Members of the Village of Los Lunas Council demonstrated strong engagement throughout the presentation, asking thoughtful questions and contributing to productive discussions about addressing substance use challenges within the community. Their participation and encouragement reflected a shared commitment to advancing effective prevention strategies and supporting future collaborative projects.
ORCNM extends its sincere appreciation to the Village of Los Lunas Council for its continued leadership, partnership, and support. As this growing collaboration moves forward, ORCNM remains dedicated to expanding community resources, strengthening local partnerships, and building a healthier, safer, and more resilient Village of Los Lunas.
